Byron Leftwich hit Franklin Wallace with a short screen for a 50 yard TD to tie the game but with the game tied at 23 SJS QB Mike Perez hit Lafo Malaulu in the back of the end zone to win this game.

This Washington State team is the best one they got in the tourny and didn't disappoint. With all the names, Jason Gesser, Marcus Trufant, Jerome Riley, Mike Bush all were present in this one and that overwhelmed the Danny Ford led Backs.

The Sophomore Carson Palmer couldn't take down the Lions and the 98-01 USC teams could be very overrated none of thoset teams were over 9 wins, with Carson Palmer. The play of this game was RB Eric McCoo and his bounce.

Bulldog-Bulldog-Bow Wow Wow! How this Yale team is ranked this high I don't know but they took out QB Zebbie Letheridge and RB Ricky Williams.

RB James Brooks broke thru for Auburn and ran for 220 and Joe Cribbs had 110 as the Tigers ran thru a very below average Cal Team.

This would have been alot worse but ASU pulled all the starters at beginning of the 4th quarter with a 29-3 lead. Two touchdowns in garbage time made the score look better then the game actually was. QB Sam Keller and Derek Hagen scored twice and DL Jimmy Verdon forced a fumble that led to a Ricardo Stewart touchdown. But the real party was in the stands in this blow out.

A late one yard score by RB Steve Atkins was the difference in this one. But at least McNeese pushed their way into the tourny.

The two headed monster of TB Andre Callender and LV Whitworth, and on the other side Mathius Kiwanuka had 10 tackles 5 tfl's and 1 forced fumble. Also LB Brian Toal had two picks and this game was for the seniors, but at least UNT stood up Fo One!

A late Phil Dawson FG preserves the win for QB James Brown and Ricky Williams, despite a late run to the 20 yard line by UCLA RB Theotis Brown. Even a home movie of UCLA(zapruder would be proud) couldn't erase the highlight here that is what makes this team by far THE TEAM I HATE THE MOST IN THIS TOURNAMENT FOR THIS PLAY ALONE. Thank you for making me re-live this tramatic time in my life and 5 years of therapy down the drain.

I really like this Fighting Irish team lead by Tony Rice, Ricky Watters and The Rocket and with a defense of Chris Zorich and Todd Lyght on the Defense, Toledo had no chance, some of the Rockets players referred to this Irish team as a "Blackhawk helicopter landing on campus, they came in blew us away and left."

Vince Young came into this tournament with all the hype (his 2005 Texas team is one of the favorites to win it all), but it was Derrick Johnson and the Longhorn defense taking center stage in this first round win. Brown only managed 123 total yards in the first three quarters, their two touchdowns coming on a John Woodring interception return for TD and a garbage time TD pass to TE Steve Jordan.

The undersized Air Force defense ended up being too much of an achilles heel for Ken Hatfield's offense to overcome. RBs Tyrone Anthony and Ethan Horton controlled the game from start to finish for the '83 Tar Heels. Perhaps this motivational message from hoops star Michael Jordan provided the inspiration.

Maryland head coach Bobby Ross decided to lean on RB Willie Joyner in this first round matchup against Dick Tomey and Hawaii, choosing to save Boomer Esiason's arm for the next round.

The Nebraska defense ran the show today, dominating a Rutgers team that averaged only 15 points per game in 1987. DEs Mike Rucker and Chad Kelsay controlled the line of scrimmage and limited Rutgers RB Henry Henderson to 42 rushing yards.

Dennis Franchione's Crimson Tide rolls in this one, thanks to a loaded defense being able to contain the potent Miami (Ohio) passing attack. Ryne Robinson's exhilirating punt return for a TD in the second quarter was the Redhawks high point. Shaud Williams answered with an 80 yard TD run on the ensuing possession.

Chattanooga head coach Joe Morrison got the better of NC State head man Monte Kiffin in this battle. RB Gwain Durden led the way for UTC with 93 yards and a touchdown.

Before Michael Vick, there was a QB named Maurice DeShazor in Blacksburg. DeShazor led a remarkable drive and found Antonio Freeman in the end zone to give the Hokies the lead with just over two minutes remianing. Then Cornell Brown and Waverly Jackson held Virginia RB Terry Kirby on fourth down to secure the win.

Walter Seward has seen plenty of Rutgers losses in his time, so this result probably didn't surprise him too much. NT Terrence Cody dominated the line of scrimmage by himself.

QB Hugh Millen led one of the best Washington teams in the field to an easy first round victory over Bobby Collins and the Golden Eagles.

In one of the best games of the first round so far, Marshall and Florida combined for over 1,100 yards of offense. WRs O.J. Small, Andre Caldwell, and Randy Moss traded big plays throughout the game, but it was RB Doug Chapman who scored the game winning touchdown on a draw play.

Dennis Green's Cardinal didn't have as much luck against Pitt as they did against Notre Dame in 1990. Pitt's "Swervin" Curvin Richards gouged the Stanford defense for 147 yards and 3 touchdowns on the ground in a win that was more convincing than the final score indicated.

Michigan's passing game was too much for Lou Holtz's secondary today. Braylon Edwards and Jason Avant ran by DBs Rod Bone and Davel Duerson all day long. Next!

Ja'Warren Hooker set the tone early by returning the opening kickoff for a TD. Brock Huard, Jerome Pathon, and the rest of the Husky offense had no trouble moving the ball on a bad Purdue defense. The first of three Curtis Painter-led Purdue teams bites the dust.

Arkansas QB Matt Jones almost single-handedly pulled off the upset, accounting for over 300 yards of total offense. His 72 yard TD run in the second quarter gave the Razorbacks a 21-0 lead and seemingly a slam dunk victory, but the defense couldn't hold the lead. LSU LBs Verge Ausberry and Oliver Lawrence tightened the screws on defense and got the ball back for QB Tom Hodson to lead this final game winning TD drive.

Clemson pulls off another tournament upset thanks to the play of Brian Dawkins, Anthony Simmons and the Tiger defense. MSU RB Lorenzo White was held in check.

The 2007 Houston Cougars didn't stand a chance against one of the best offenses of all time. The triplets, Turner Gill, Mike Rozier, and Irving Fryar scored at will. Look out for the "Scoring Explosion", they could go a long way in this tournament.

The Nittany Lions did indeed roll on. The #25 overall seed in the tournament had no problem dismissing Bruce Snyder's Aggies. PSU led 30-0 at halftime, which meant QB Chuck Fusina (pictured), along with most of the other starters, didn't see the field in the second half.

We're at least 64 games into the tournament, and finally we get our first overtime. Quarterbacks Kellen Clemens and Tyler Palko put on a show, combining to throw for almost 700 yards, but it was Oregon LB Jerry Matson who had the ultimate highlight. He picked off a Palko pass in the third overtime and returned it for the game winning touchdown.

Even a sand and wind storm couldn't keep Kirk Herbstreit and Robert Smith from roughing up the Aztecs. Dan Wilkinson single-handedly held SDSU RB Jonas Lewis in check, and that left the Aztecs very few scoring options.

RB John Henry White led the Bulldogs to a victory over year-mates Memphis with 93 yards and a touchdown.

Boise State, known more for their explosive offenses over the last decade, rode their 2008 defense to a victory over 1983 Indiana State to advance to the second round. Boise's Jeron Johnson brought the lumber to the undersized Sycamores all day.

Virginia Tech's excellent running back Kevin Jones did his best to keep the Hokies in this game, but the Gators were a step ahead the whole day. Chris Leak took advantage of the young Hokie linebackers by finding TE Ben Troupe on several key third down conversions.

Despite a remarkable performance by RB Quincy Wilson (223 yards, 3 touchdowns), including this amazing touchdown catch and run that tied the game at 27 in the fourth quarter, the '03 Mountaineers got eliminated. Oregon rotated quarterbacks Jason Maas and Akili Smith all game long, but it was Maas who guided the Ducks on their game winning field goal drive.

What was expected to be a shootout turned out to be a lopsided affair. The Spartans excellent defense shut down an East Carolina offense that averaged over 35 points per game. RB Leonard Henry was held in check, and MSU registered five "sackarinos" on ECU QB David Garrard. RB Lorenzo White carried the load offensively, scoring two touchdowns.

QB Mike Shula's steady hand guided the Crimson Tide to an easy first round victory over SEC rival LSU. Birmingham freshman RB Bobby Humphrey also made a significant impact with a handful of big plays. This is a team to watch out for.

Steve Spurrier found out that you need a little more defense than his 1988 Duke team has in order to win in this tournament. Oklahoma State CB Darrent Williams broke the game open early in the second quarter with this pick-6 off QB Anthony Dilweg. The Cowboys also got a big contribution offensively from their outstanding WR Rashaun Woods.

RB Sammy Winder put up 111 yards and 2 touchdowns as the Eagles surprisingly won the battle in the trenches to send WR Lee Evans and the '03 Badgers packing.

The powerful Mountaineer defense shut down Tommy Tuberville's offense without much trouble. RB Dou Innocent had no room to run thanks to LB Darryl Talley. WVU QB Jeff Hostetler took good care of the ball and ensured this game wouldn't need to go down to the final play like the 1982 Backyard Brawl.

Purdue RB Mike Alstott had this highlight reel run early in the ballgame, but after that it was all Cedric Benson and the Longhorns. Mack Brown gave Chance Mock the nod at quarterback, but freshman Vince Young got most of the snaps in the second half. Either way, they mostly handed the ball off to Cedric Benson, who accumulated 189 yards and 3 touchdowns on the day.

Boston College freshman QB Doug Flutie didn't have any miracles up his sleeve today. His hail mary attempt on the final play of the game fell short, which gave Bill Walsh and Stanford a ticket to the second round.

Clemson's dynamic running backs were the story in this upset. James Davis and C.J. Spiller proved to be too much for Ray Agnew and the Wolfpack defense to handle. Even though 1988 N.C. State is going home early, they'll always have this win over rival North Carolina to remember.

This one was over as soon as the Cornhuskers took the field. Jimmy Johnson's defense wasn't ready for prime time and C Dominic Raiola dominated DL Brent Guy in the trenches. Sophomore QB Eric Crouch ran for 112 yards and three touchdowns.

In one of the uglier games of the tournament so far, USC linebacker Chris Claiborne made the difference with 13 tackles. He shadowed RB Adrian Murrell all game long and made the game winning tackle on fourth down on the Mountaineers final possession.

BYU QB Robbie Bosco paced a workmanlike offense that looked like it was holding back for the later rounds. There wasn't even a hint of panic on LaVell Edwards' face when QB Paul Smith found WR Idris Moss for a 27-yard TD that cut the BYU lead down to 20-17 late in the third quarter. Then Vai Sikahema delivered the knockout punch (much like his knockout of Jose Canseco) with an 11-yard touchdown catch in the fourth quarter.

If Pat Dye's Auburn Tigers had brought as much energy to this game as their mascot Aubie, they might have had a chance. Instead, RB Andrew Pinnock ran up, around, over, and through the Auburn defense all day long.

Tennessee wasted no time putting away this out-matched Arkansas State team. The RB duo of Jamal Lewis and Travis Henry accounted for over 200 yards on the ground.

The Virginia Tech defense was the story here. UNM RB DonTrell Moore was taken out of the game early thanks to a Pierson Prioleau blocked punt that he returned for a touchdown. Lobo QB Casey Kelly had no chance against the pass rush of Hokie bookends Corey Moore and John Engelberger.

Rocky Long's Lobos take another hit in the tournament, with the 2004 team getting eliminated immediately after the 2003 team bit the dust. Indiana's defense, paced by LB Charles Beauchamp, were able to corrall RB DonTrell Moore.

Hayden Fry's 1985 Hawkeyes are a team to watch in this tournament. The run pass duo of QB Chuck Long and RB Ronnie Harmon looked great against rookie coach Derek Dooley's defense.

(1859) 1987 TCU - 10
The Wrecking Crew was every bit as good as advertised. Sam Adams and company held the potent TCU ground game to only 26 rushing yards. TCU coach Jim Wacker was not pleased.

(1214) 1994 Georgia - 26
Georgia RB Terrell Davis, who some Rams players were calling "overrated" prior to the game, never got loose in this one. He was held to 64 meaningless yards, placing the entire burden on QB Eric Zeier. Zeier played well, but not well enough. The Dawg defense couldn't stop Colorado State down the stretch and QB Matt Newton found WR Dallas Davis for the game winning touchdown.

Another Colorado State advances to the second round. The '77 edition, coached by Sark Arslanian, picked up the win thanks to the play of their defense.

The 2002 Notre Dame formula for winning games was to rely on the defense to force turnovers. Shane Walton didn't let anybody down. The senior picked off two Brad Tayles passes and LB Derek Curry forced two fumbles as the Irish defense outscored the offense yet again.

The 1990 BYU team is another sleeper in Bracket 62, if for no other reason than their high scoring offense. QB Ty Detmer threw for 436 yards and 4 touchdowns against a bad Beaver defense.

Somehow, Wake Forest coach John Mackovic managed to pull this game out. Despite failing to score a single point on three trips to the red zone, the Deacons still had enough fire power to reach the end zone three times on big plays.

Syracuse needs to find some coaching. Despite bringing some great players, the Orange are already 0-fer-3 in this tournament. This time it's WR Marvin Harrison and RB Kirby Dar Dar going home. Despite a solid '94 season, LB Antwaune Ponds was no match for Oregon RB Derek Loville, who piled up 143 yards on the soft Syracuse D.

The 1985 Gators might have had their SEC title stripped due to NCAA violations, but that doesn't disqualify them from this tournament. Coach Galen Hall's defense was dominant in this contest, and QB Kerwin Bell was as elusive in the pocket as ever. At least the 1984 Spartans will be home in time to support their Cheer Squad in the Championships.
